Supporting Our Next Generation
Children are the greatest asset a community has. They need
to be loved, encouraged and recognized for their
accomplishments. The Young Vikings Club’s mission is to offer
a system of recognition for boys and girls learning outdoor
skills, reverence for Earth and honoring Family while
promoting well roundedness and Ásatrú virtues. Parents can
decide what activities are best for their families.
Membership in the Young Vikings Club is free to all. Contact us

Our Goal
Young Vikings Club
How it works
Few people will live in an area where there are enough Ásatrú families to hold regular meetings specifically for
kids. Similarly, it is unlikely that a family will know local Ásatrú teachers for a wide variety of challenges. The
Young Viki Vikings Club accepts documentation confirming your child has participated in an activity by other
organizations. Wit With a bit of research, you will find many exciting and educational opportunities for
outdoors learning qualifying for a Young Vikings Club Challenge. For example, Mrs. Smith was on the varsity
swimming team in high school and feels she is qualified to teach her kids the necessary skills to complete the
Young Vikings Club Swimming I challenge. The Johnson family does not live too far away and they bring their
children and join Mrs. Smith in a weekly lesson at the local public pool. However, neither the Smiths nor the
Johnsons have much boating experience. They find a canoing safety class offered by their State’s Fish and
Wildlife Department to teach the skills needed for the Young Vikings Club Watercraft I challenge.
Most Young Vikings will receive all of their training in a manner similar to the above example. In fact, you will
find the majority of the lessons were things you wanted to teach or are already teaching your child to do! The
Young Vikings Club provides a structure of rewards that kids will understand and love, and can be recognized by
other club members and friends.
Challenges: Your Kids, Your Choice
Although it is our hope that the course structure
will be adopted by every teacher, it is ultimately
the responsibility of the parents to choose which
activities and awards are appropriate for their
children. Kids of any age may participate in the
Young Vikings Club. Some of the tasks and lessons
can be learned as young as age 6. Many of the
tasks are more appropriate for ages 8 to 12, while
others activities cannot be safely undertaken until
their teenage years. Ultimately, it is the
responsibility of the parent to ensure that you or the trainer you select is fully qualified and experienced to
safely teach your child the necessary skills to perform each Challenge. Each child is different, and parents may
choose to incorporate other skills and tasks not yet considered by the club. Make your requests or suggestions to
the Viking Council. We want to be helpful to parents teaching Ásatrú traditions to the next generation. If you
the parent have an idea that you feel espouses Ásatrú virtues and is deserving of reward or praise, let us know!

nine Ranks. As the program grows, additional badges and awards
will be added.
Skill Families
Ranks of the Young Vikings
Parents must first have completed a Membership and Parents Waiver
form. There is no cost for joining the Club. Next, select an appropriate
Challenge from the Book of Challenges. You may choose any Challenge
that seems ‘fun’ or try to select one from a Skill Family that your child
needs for attaining a Rank. Next, find a qualified and experienced
trainer to teach the Challenge safely. Upon completion, send in a
completed Challenge Well Met form to the Viking Council. The new level will
be added to the Young Viking’s official records and you will receive a
communication indicating the new standings. If a Young Viking qualifies
for a rise in rank or other award offered by the club, you may mail the
badge fee to the Viking Council who will promptly send the award to you.
Awards may only be given to Young Vikings during a Ritual of Honor.
The Challenge Process
The challenges will not be rewarding if your Young Viking is pushed beyond a reasonable level, and that's when
people are at their greatest risk of injury. Children each learn in different ways. Be patient with them and
make it fun. They are the future of our families and Faith. It is our cherished hope that families will take the
time to educate their children in these character-building tasks and that young Ásatrúar receive the support,
reward and praise of their heathen community. Safety is our primary concern.
Remember: Have Fun & Be Safe!
